Stutchburia dianensis was named by Guo (1985). Its type specimen is IV7 0130, a valve (Right valve, external mold), and it is a mold. Its type locality is Huanglalao, Ninglang County, which is in a Wuchiapingian/Changhsingian marine horizon in China.
