Carditella was named by Smith (1881) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Carditellinae.
It was assigned to Condylocardiidae by Oostingh (1935); to Carditamerinae by Adegoke (1977), Vokes (1980), Dockery (1982); to Carditidae by Lamprell and Healy (1998); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Carditellinae by Pérez (2019).

D. Pérez 2019 | Shell small and flabellate. Lunule elongated. External sculpture of 11-15 radial ribs. Hinge composed by two left cardinal and three right cardinal teeth. Each valve also has two lateral teeth, one nearly marginal on the one side, the other on the opposite side being well within the outer edge, with a groove between it and the anterior margin. External and internal ligament small, internal placed beneath the apex of the valves in a small resilifer (Modified from Smith, 1881). |
