Taxonomy
Ceraurus rarus was named by Walcott (1877) [Type specimen at FMNH.
According to Moss & Westrop (2014):
Not Encrinuroides c.f. rarus sensu Ludvigsen 1975 pl. 3, figs. 22, 23 [= W. rolfi n. sp.].

Not Encrinuroides rarus sensu Tremblay & Westrop fig. 17.27–17.36 [= W. tremblayi n. sp.; see Lésperence and Desbiens 1995, p. 9].]. Its type specimen is UC 12322, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Walencrinuroides.
It was recombined as Encrinuroides rarus by Chatterton and Ludvigsen (1976); it was recombined as Walencrinuroides rarus by Lespérance and Desbiens (1995) and Moss and Westrop (2014).
