Taxonomy
Otarion spinicaudatum was named by Shaw (1968). Its type specimen is NYSM 12243, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Beggaspis spinicaudatum by Adrain and Chatterton (1994).
