Gibbolucina was named by Cossmann (1904) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l R]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Lucina (Gibbolucina) by Vredenburg (1928); it was reranked as Miltha (Gibbolucina) by Glibert (1933).

It was assigned to Lucina by Vredenburg (1928); to Miltha by Glibert (1933); to Milthinae by Vokes (1980) and Moore (1988); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
