Irusella was named by Hertlein and Grant (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-m R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Venerinae by Coan et al. (2000); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
