Prostenophlebia was named by Nel and Martínez-Delclòs (1993). It is not extant. Its type is Prostenophlebia jurassica.

It was assigned to Stenophlebiinae by Nel et al. (1993); and to Prostenophlebiidae by Fleck et al. (2003).
