Protopliomerops firmimarginis was named by Hintze (1953) [Paratypes: 26422, 26424-9 (AMNH).]. Its type specimen is 26423 (AMNH), a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Hintzeia firmimarginis by Harrington (1957), McAdams and Adrain (2011).
