Marcia was named by Adams and A (1857) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Tapetinae by Vokes (1980) and Squires (1984); to Veneridae by Durham (1944) and Lamprell and Whitehead (1992); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
