Meiocardia was named by Adams and A (1857) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes R]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Isocardia (Meiocardia) by Hendy (2007).

It was assigned to Bivalvia by Traub (1938); to Glossidae by Vokes (1980), Wienrich (1999); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Isocardia by Hendy (2007).
