Cretaneophya strevensi was named by Jarzembowski and Nel (1996). Its type specimen is BMB 018811/-2, a wing (Basal fragment), and it is an impression. Its type locality is Smokejacks Brickworks, which is in a Barremian pond claystone/siltstone in the Weald Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
