Notodonax was named by Feruglio (1935) [Sepkoski's age data: K u K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Donacidae by Adegoke (1977), Vokes (1980), Saul (1989); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
