Mantoidae was named by Giglio-Tos (1919). It is extant. Its type is Mantoida.

It was corrected as Mantoididae by Wang and Jin (1995), Grimaldi (2003), Svensen and Whiting (2009), Schwarz and Roy (2019).

It was assigned to Mantoidea by Wang and Jin (1995); to Eumantodea by Grimaldi (2003), Svensen and Whiting (2009); and to Mantoidoidea by Schwarz and Roy (2019).
