Taxonomy
Karatawia sibirica was named by Pritykina (1985). Its type specimen is PIN 1670/182, a hindwing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Ust-Baley Locality (PIN collection 1670), which is in a Toarcian lacustrine - small horizon in the Cheremkhovskaya Formation of the Russian Federation.
