Taxonomy
Gryllacris was named by Serville (1831). It is extant. It is the type genus of Gryllacrididae.

It was assigned to Locustidae by Deichmüller (1886); to Gryllacrididae by Carpenter (1992); and to Gryllacridinae by Eades et al. (2012).
