Sycorax neli was named by Azar et al. (2007). Its type specimen is MNHN CDL 2.8, an exoskeleton (Complete Male), and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Cadeuil amber, which is in an Albian/Cenomanian terrestrial amber in France.
