Pseudopermophorus was named by Ciriacks (1963) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-u P Tatr Sepkoski's reference number: 157]. Its type is Pseudopermophorus annettae.

It was assigned to Permophoridae by Ciriacks (1963); to Permophorinae by Cox et al. (1969); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Kalenteridae by Kiel (2018).
