Taxonomy
Permastraea buttensis was named by Fedorowski et al. (2007). Its type specimen is USNM 508863 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is SJS-640, Western Butte Mountains, which is in an Artinskian carbonate limestone in the Pequop Formation of Nevada.
