Assimulia (Assimulia) abscessa was named by Fedorowski (1987). Its type specimen is USNM 197069 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USNM707b, Lenox Hills, Glass Mountains, which is in a Kungurian slope limestone in the Skinner Ranch Formation of Texas.
