Miroculus laticephalus was named by Zhang et al. (2011). Its type specimen is CNU-HE-LB2006692, an exoskeleton (complete insect), and it is an impression. Its type locality is Huangbanjigou, Chaomidian Village (CNU collection), which is in a Barremian lacustrine - large mudstone in the Yixian Formation of China. It is the type species of Miroculus.
