Monopleura was named by Matheron (1842) [Sepkoski's age data: J Tith-u K Maes-u]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Caprotinidae by Steuber (2002); to Hippuritoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Monopleuridae by Palmer (1928), Bouchet et al. (2010), Skelton (2013).
