Taxonomy
Prohemeroscopus was named by Bechly et al. (1998). It is not extant. Its type is Prohemeroscopus jurassicus. It is the type genus of Prohemeroscopidae.

It was assigned to Hemeroscopidae by Bechly et al. (1998); and to Prohemeroscopidae by Bechly and Ueda (2002), Bechly (2019).
