Taxonomy
Prohemeroscopus kuehnapfeli was named by Bechly et al. (1998). Its type specimen is JME SOS 1673, a hindwing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Blumenberg quarry, Eichstätt, Solnhofen (Jura Museum JME collection), which is in a Tithonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Solnhofen Formation of Germany.
