Taxonomy
Archaeohyrax patagonicus was named by Ameghino (1897). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Deseadan of Patagonia, which is in a Deseadan terrestrial horizon in the Sarmiento Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Archaeohyrax.

of teeth exhibiting simultaneously a fossette or fos- setid (i.e. P3-M2 & p3-m2 in A. suniensis, P2-M3 & p2-m3 in A. patagonicus); less hypsodont cheek teeth; second mental foramen situated less anterior than in A. suniensis; stylomastoid foramen less aproximated to the tympanohyal recess.
