Sedgwickia was named by McCoy (1844) [Sepkoski's age data: C l P Guad-u]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Allorisma (Sedgwickia) by Meek (1871).

It was assigned to Allorisma by Meek (1871); to Grammysiidae by Vokes (1980); to Pholadomyoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Grammysiinae by Machado et al. (2021).
