Taxonomy
Campylocephalus was named by Eichwald (1860) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp Sepkoski's reference number: 360]. It is not extant. Its type is Limulus oculatus.

It was assigned to Stylonuridae by Størmer (1955); to Eurypterida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Hibbertopteridae by Kjellesvig-Waering (1959), Lamsdell et al. (2010), Dunlop et al. (2013), Dunlop et al. (2020), Braddy et al. (2023), Lamsdell (2025).
