Taxonomy
Hughmilleria was named by Kjellesvig-Waering (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl Sepkoski's reference number: 360]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Hughmilleroidea, Hughmilleriidae.

It was assigned to Eurypterida by Sepkoski (2002); to Pterygotoidea by Tetlie et al. (2007); and to Hughmilleriidae by Størmer (1955), Braddy et al. (2002), Dunlop et al. (2020), Lamsdell (2025).
