Taxonomy
Asaphus obtusus was named by Hall (1847) [? Asaphus obtusus]. Its type specimen is NYSM 12538 (neotype), a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Isotelus obtusum by Raymond (1905); it was recombined as Isotelus obtusus by Raymond (1905); it was recombined as Onchometopus obtusus by Raymond (1910); it was recombined as Homotelus obtusus by Raymond (1925) and Clark (1964); it was recombined as Vogdesia obtusus by Shaw (1968), Shaw and Bolton (2011).
