Zalmonites was named by Handlirsch (1906). It is not extant. Its type is Zalmonites geinitzi.

It was assigned to Locustidae by Handlirsch (1906); to Haglidae by Sharov (1968), Carpenter (1992); and to Hagloidea by Gorochov (1995).
