Taxonomy
Cicindela aquatica was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant.

It was recombined as Elaphrus aquaticus by Fabricius (1775); it was recombined as Notiophilus aquaticus by Coope et al. (1961), Böcher (1995), Kiselev and Nazarov (2009), Tamutis et al. (2011) and Ashworth and Nelson (2014).
