Taxonomy
Aeshna multicellulata was named by Gentilini and Peters (1993). Its type specimen is Gentilini col. MC 1214, a hindwing (missing anal margin ), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Monte Castellaro (MCSN collection), which is in a Messinian lagoonal marl in the Gessoso-solfifera Formation of Italy.
