Taxonomy
Agrion (Sterope) parthenope was named by Heer (1849). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Oeningen (Zurich collection), which is in a Sarmatian crater lake limestone in the Upper Freshwater-Molasse Formation of Germany.
It was recombined as Sterope parthenope by Hagen (1850); it was recombined as Agrion parthenope by Heer (1864); it was recombined as Steropoides parthenope by Kirby (1890), Nel and Paicheler (1994).
