Dysagrion was named by Scudder (1878). It is the type genus of Dysagrionini.
It was assigned to Pseudolestidae by Carpenter (1992); to Thaumatoneurinae by Nel and Paicheler (1994); to Dysagrionini by Zheng et al. (2016); and to Dysagrioninae by Archibald et al. (2021).
