Taxonomy
Hapaloptera gracilis was named by Handlirsch (1906). Its type specimen is USNM 38731, a forewing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Fishing Creek gap, Sharp Mountain, Tremont, which is in a Westphalian C/Westphalian D terrestrial siliciclastic in Pennsylvania.
