Taxonomy
Harpalus was named by Latreille (1802). It is extant. It is the type genus of Harpalii, Harpalini, Harpalina.
It was assigned to Melanchlaeni by Latreille (1802); to Carabiques by Dejean (1821); to Harpali by LeConte (1861); to Carabidae by Scudder (1900), Wickham (1917), Cockerell (1921); to Harpalina by Bouchard et al. (2011); and to Harpalini by Tamutis et al. (2011).
