Ceratonurus was named by Prantl and Pribyl (1949) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi D Eife Sepkoski's reference number: 421,1106]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Odontopleurida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Odontopleuridae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
