Meadowtownella was named by Pribyl and Vanek (1965) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1245]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Acidaspidinae by Ramsköld and Chatterton (1991); to Odontopleuridae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Odontopleurida by Sepkoski (2002).
