Scytohymen extremus was named by Martynov (1937) [In English part of paper name is given as S. extrensus and in russian part is given as S. extremus]. Its type specimen is PIN 2/99, a wing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Savinovski log, near village of Savino-Potukhovo, which is in a Kungurian/Kazanian terrestrial siliciclastic in the Russian Federation.
