Permarrhaphidae was named by Martynov (1931). Its type is Permarrhaphus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Anthracoptilidae by Rasnitsyn and Aristov (2004); it was synonymized subjectively with Ischnoneuridae by Rasnitsyn and Aristov (2013).

It was assigned to Polyphaga by Martynov (1931); to Strephocladina by Novokshonov and Aristov (2004); and to Insecta by Guan et al. (2016).
