Asthenopsis was named by Whitehouse (1939) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm uMid Sepkoski's reference number: 16]. It is not extant. Its type is Asthenopsis levior.

It was assigned to Ptychopariidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
