Taxonomy
Protomyrmeleon cretacicus was named by Nel and Jarzembowski (1998). Its type specimen is BMB 018741/2, a wing (incomplete wing), and it is an impression. Its type locality is Clockhouse Brickworks (BMB collection), which is in a Hauterivian lagoonal sandstone in the Weald Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
