Taxonomy
Crepicephalus was named by Owen (1852). Its type is Dikelocephalus iowensis.

It was reranked as Arionellus (Crepicephalus) by Meek and Hayden (1861).

It was assigned to Arionellus by Meek and Hayden (1861); to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Crepicephalidae by Westrop (1992), Jell and Adrain (2002).
