Trechus was named by Clairville (1806). It is extant. It is the type genus of Trechii, Trechina, Trechini, Trechitae.
It was assigned to Carabiques by Dejean (1821); to Trechini by LeConte (1861), Tamutis et al. (2011); and to Trechina by Bouchard et al. (2011), Maddison et al. (2019).
