Labidura was named by Leach (1815). It is extant. It is the type genus of Labiduridae, Labiduroidea, Labidurinae.

It was assigned to Forficulariae by Scudder (1890); to Labiduridae by Carpenter (1992); and to Labidurinae by Engel and Haas (2007).
