Pelicephalus was named by Kurtz (1975) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Fran-l Sepkoski's reference number: 384]. It is not extant. Its type is Pelicephalus lochmani.
It was assigned to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pterocephaliidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
