Nyctiborinae was named by Saussure (1869). It is extant.

It was reranked as the family Nyctiboridae by Djernæs et al. (2020), Evangelista et al. (2021).

It was assigned to Phyllodromiidae by Statz (1939); to Ectobiidae by Evangelista et al. (2017); to Blaberoidea by Djernæs et al. (2020); and to Orkrasomeria by Evangelista et al. (2021).
