Taxonomy
Trox was named by Fabricius (1775). It is extant. It is the type genus of Trogidae, Troginae.
It was assigned to Eleuterata by Fabricius (1775); to Coleoptera by Latreille (1796); to Scarabaeides by Latreille (1802); to Scarabaeidae by Scudder (1890), Scudder (1900); to Trogidae by Krell (2000); and to Troginae by Nikolajev (2007), Bouchard et al. (2011).
