Taxonomy
Clerus was named by Geoffroy (1762). It is extant. It is the type genus of Cleroidea, Cleridae, Clerii.
It was assigned to Eleuterata by Fabricius (1775); to Coleoptera by Geoffroy (1762), Schaeffer (1766) and Latreille (1796); to Clerii by Latreille (1802); to Clerinae by Kolibáč (1997), Bouchard et al. (2011), Kolibáč and Huang (2016) and Gimmel et al. (2019); and to Clerina by Bartlett (2021).
