Taxonomy
Whittingtonella was named by Ludvigsen et al. (1989) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm u Sepkoski's reference number: ZR90]. Its type is Whittingtonella martinae.

It was assigned to Acidaspidinae by Ramsköld and Chatterton (1991); to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Dokimocephalidae by Ludvigsen et al. (1989) and Jell and Adrain (2002).
