Xenocheilos was named by Wilson (1949) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Fran-l Sepkoski's reference number: 379,697]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Norwoodiidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Nepeidae by Westrop and Adrain (2009).
